J. Jamal Musenze is an independent African filmmaker whose work centers on artistic, cultural, and social issues from an African perspective. With roots in creative writing and photojournalism, he began his filmmaking journey in 2004 and has since developed a thoughtful body of work that blends narrative film, video art, and documentary.

Despite the past seven years being a quieter period creatively, due to ongoing mental health challenges he undergoes with a serious bipolar disorder that constantly strikes him down, Jamal has remained actively and deeply connected to the filmmaking community. During this time, he continued to create short films—works that reflect both personal resilience and a commitment to socially conscious storytelling, even if they remained unseen by wider audiences. He has also sustained his passion for empowering youth through his founded not-for-profit organization - Film Impact Movement (www.filmimpactmovement.org ), encouraging the emerging and young filmmakers across Uganda to tell their own stories using accessible tools like smartphones.

Above all, his career achievements are demonstrated by attending local and international filmmakers' labs and working on international sets for feature films like “Queen of Katwe” Uganda/USA and “Sara’s Notebook”. Uganda/Spain.

Now moving forward with renewed perspective, Jamal remains dedicated to using film as a medium for healing, voice, and transformation.
